What Is Driver CPC All About ?

1. The new Initial Qualification (for all new drivers) which consists of 4 modules, for this you need to contact the DSA on 0300 200 1122 and complete before you commence your practical training.

2. Driver Periodic Training (for all LGV existing licence holders) consisting of 5 modules each consisting of 7 hours of training, for this you will need to attend a JAUPT approved training centre and complete the 35 hours of training before 2014.

When do I have to do my Driver CPC?

For bus and coach drivers – 5 years from 10th. September 2008 For LGV drivers – 5 years from 10th. September 2009
 

Can you afford to wait to start Driver CPC? 

 

You can if you wish BUT the fact remains there are approximately 1,387,185 LGV licence holders in the UK (source Parliament Stationery Office) without even counting PCV licence holders.  That simply means 23,119 LGV licence holders have to start and complete full 5 day courses per month (all completing 1 module per. day) from September 10th. this year in order for all those to complete within the 5 year period. Don’t delay; reserve your place today.

 

Who will Driver CPC affect?

All professional drivers of lorries (of all sizes), buses, coaches and minibuses unless they qualify for an exemption.

 

What is Driver CPC?

 Certificate of professional competence.  A new qualification for professional bus, coach and lorry drivers Driver CPC is coming, just holding a vocational driving licence will not be sufficient for someone who wishes to drive these vehicles for a living.The Driving Standards Agency (DSA) is implementing EU Directive 2003/59 which requires all professional bus, coach and lorry drivers to hold a Driver CPC in addition to their vocational driving licence. It comes into force by law across all European Union member states on: • 10 September 2008 for bus and coach drivers • 10 September 2009 for lorry drivers What is the purpose of Driver CPC?

Driver CPC is being introduced to improve the knowledge and skills of lorry, bus and coach drivers which in turn will help; 
  • To improve road safety.
  • To support the road freight and passenger transport industries by providing savings through more fuel efficient and defensive driving and help the industries with staff recruitment and retention.
  • To raise the profile of the driving profession through maintaining skills levels, improving career opportunities and enhancing the image of drivers as 'professionals'.
  • To help the environment through reduced fuel consumption and vehicle wear and tear.
  • Note: We are applying for our centre approval registration number in readiness to be able to offer all 5 modules from September 10th but are taking placement reservations NOW.
